The Walt Disney Company – Disney in short – has to be one of the most beloved brands across the globe (take a look at the top 100 most valuable global brands here).
We’ve all been touched in one way or another by their incredible characters and stood in awe in front of some screen (small, medium or large) while watching their amazing animated movies or real life documentaries.
In addition to that they operate a number of theme parks where amazing feats take place leaving young and old perplexed as to how they’re accomplished. “Magic” is a recurring theme in all of Disney’s offerings.
And magic according to Arthur C. Clarke’s three laws is usually a misconception for advanced technology!
This is where Disney Research comes into play – the research lab behind most of Disney’s wonderful Magic Acts. I urge you to take a look at their site but I’m also attaching a few videos of their latest tricks!!!
1) What if you could transmit sound only to the person you touch (the principle is well known but the Disney approach is still interesting)
2) How can you provide tactile feedback without any physical instrumentation in direct contact with the user (Hint: use the air!!!)
3) The multi / connected screen debate is ongoing & heated. See how Disney uses an old time classic (The animated version of the Little Mermaid) in conjunction with tablets to provide an interactive and enhanced movie going experience
So what’s your favorite Disney experience?
